Membership: Category – Ordinary Supporter Associate Membership

This membership exists to support and enhance the global work of the Green Economics Institute.

The Institute is 21 years old in 2025 and as a result its membership dynamics and offering are changing to reflect the maturing organisation and achievements and recognition of its impact and success. The Institute is 21 years old and its charity is 18 years old and its academic journal has become a leader in its field. We welcome and celebrate our members who support our work in various ways.

Therefore it is time to make some changes to our membership offering. We now have a trained professional due diligence team of officers, who check all applications regularly and usually very quickly for us to protect the institute and its United Nations Delegations.

We have queues for inclusion in almost all our activities, therefore we will be making some changes in how people interact to support us and membership will revert to being by application and process and subsequent acceptance or rejection once again. Whilst we want to welcome absolutely everyone to our institute, due to harassment, destructive behaviour and abuse, by a tiny trickle of a minority of people over the years, sadly, we have had to get stricter in our membership, supporter and publishing terms and conditions in order to protect our wonderful work and that of our lovely supporters, members, trustees, and students, as follows below:

The officers and board’s decision will be final in this regard and they will always be based on the best outcomes for the institute and we are unable to provide reasons therefore. We will be happy to help people through the process.

Sadly this is in part due to experiencing scamming and threats and and attempts to intimidate us in order to take advantage of our international diplomacy status as well as scams trying to obtain visas for selling and trafficking. We always alert the authorities and ask for their guidance. Please do not try and abuse or scam us.

After our very successful event at the House of Lords it is clear that we will be requiring new relationships with our supporter members and team members and moving forward in different ways from now on. Membership and renewal is by application and officers acceptance only.

The Institute will not tolerate abuse or harrassment of its members, officers or directors, and any member deeming to have threatened or abused or any other kind of unpleasantness will have their membership automatically revoked and annulled for the year in question. There will be no refunds in such circumstances– because being abusive or threatening is a choice.

For new applications or renewal applications or existing members beginning the new process at the institute, any perceived abusive or threatening behaviour or intimidation of our officers or volunteers will result in automatic rejection without a reason. Anyone found to be enhancing their cv or their prior publication record or reputions will be automatically rejected. Anyone who has been abusive will automatically be rejected.

Due to the cutting edge work we do and the cross roads field of activities we do, from time to time people come to us with a serious conflict of interest or loyalties and determine to inject a different agenda not consistent with our aims. We have been advised that we no longer have to tolerate this behaviour or the disruption it causes. Indeed we have been advised to dismiss anyone appearing to be on such a mission. We are therefore from now on undertaking to cancel any membership where we believe for what ever reason there may be a conflict of interest and to reserve the right to reject renewals or continuation of membership in any category without giving a reason. Refunds will not be given if the reason is intimidation or abuse, threats or harrasment. Membership payments are always non refundable, once a payment has been made. We reserve the right to take the time necessary to process the application. This may take several months depending on the nature of the situation and who is available in our team to undertake the due diligence. We do not accept ordinary membership where it is tied to a commercial company and these will automatically rejected when it is realised. Company memberships must be applied for separately by a separate process.

Conflict of interest can also include but not limited to wrong doing by means of the following: trying to force a different agenda, trying to undermine our messaging from within, publishing articles with a wrecking agenda, disrupting meetings to try to take them over or prevent the institute carrying out its work, insulting other members to harrass them or reduce their confidence, myosogeny, personal insults, intimidation to obtain visa support letters -rather than to enhance our diplomatic missions-cloning our websites, there are many types of conflict of interests. All members and all authors will now be required to sign a formal conflict of interest form before application. The officers will also rule on conflict of interest and if they determine there is a question or uncertainty they reserve the right to withdraw or reject any application or publication without giving a reason.

Donations are all subject to Due Dilligence- Money Laundering, Undue or unsuitable influence and all donations are non refundable under any circumstances however we reserve the right to reject donations and return them to the donor if the due diligence process we carry out internally is not succesful at any stage. We reserve the right not to give a reason for the return of donations or the rejection of them. If later issues come to light in this regard we reserve the right to return them later on. This is extremely rare but we reserve this right to safeguard the Institute.

Visa application support letters are important. Anyone found to be requesting them due to conflict of interest or questionable reasons will be automatically bared from membership and all institute activity. There is a great deal of fraud, trafficking and visa selling around the United Nations and so we are on the look out for incompatible reasons to request inclusion in our delegations. All applications to participate are subject to in person or zoom interviews every time plus briefings and trainings and memberships processes. All visa application support letters will once again carry a processing fee due to the amount of due dilligence work we have to carry out to avoid such things.

We would ask all members to refrain from such practices and intimidating our volunteers and charity and not for profit workers and to respect them at all times. Failure to do so will mean immediate cessation and annulment without a refund of a persons membership of all parts of the Institute. The officers decision is final in this regard and reasons will not be given or elaborated on. Anyone deemed to be intimidating our voluntary workers will be deemed incompatible with membership and will have their membership annulled without prior notice from the moment where the alledged harrassment took place. We would ask all such people to go to anger management classes and take therapy and to desist from intimiation in their future actions -but to understand and accept that their behaviour is incompatible with any of our membership categories.

Paying a Membership fee or donation will not guarantee any selection necessarily into our delegations, meetings or activities nor will it guarantee publication in any of our books, or other publications and does not necessarily confer speaker rights at any of our events nor preferential treatment by the Green Economics Institute which is solely dependent on merit as determined by the officers of the Institute. Bullying and harrassment will be counter productive in this regard and will result automatically in exclusion from all such activities.

Due to expansion and our reoorganisation from February 2025 the memberships are being split into categories of supporters activities and areas of focus. Applications for Associate Supporter Membership will become specific to an area of activity in which members may be invited to participate to contribute to the work, volunteering or activities depending on the needs of the Institute, and they may also be invited to support with funding. All paid up members and new members will be invited to reapply for validation, no membership will continue without the revalidation of the officers and anyone who has paid in 2025 and whose validation is unable to be certified by the officers will be refunded their membership subscription in the value of the proportion of that membership for the year in question.

For example if the revalidation is rejected in March 2025- then the refund is of the membership subcription for the remaining 9 months of the year. The officers’ decision is final and reasons will not be given for acceptance or rejection but the boards running the institute will be consulted to assist in decision criteria.

All refunds of membership are subject to an administrative fee no less than our costs and bank charges we have already paid- generally 10% of the membership fee eg £65.00 for membership refund if given, which is not normally the case will be refunded at £55.00 so long as no membership benefits have been enjoyed and none of the above mentioned wrong doing has been attempted.

These memberships are all supporters memberships and are Associate Supporter Memberships in Nature. They do not carry voting rights. They do not imply any endorsement of the Associate Member in anyway. One category is student membership and another is academic membership but both of these are by application and special board accreditation only and are not automatic. The role of these members is to enhance the stratigic focus of the institute as laid out by its officers.

We offer members evenings from time to time. The aim is for this international network to support the work of the Green Economics Institute and its trust, and to enable it to work for social and environmental justice and the creation of Green Economics as an academic discipline, the reform of economics and also to work to stop runaway climate change and prevent poverty and species extinction. The Institute uses science, research and diplomacy to attain its goals.

Publication in our books, journals and magazines, is by what officers or editors deem most suitable for the message of that work, and is not determined by harrasment, intimidation, bribery, donations or bullying or length of membership. No reasons will be given and we reserve absolutely the right to determine what gets published, when, and how long it remains in print without giving a reason, or an update at any stage. We reserve the right to remove chapters, papers from books already published without giving a reason, warning or notice. We reserve the right to withdraw any book or any chapter at any stage without giving a reason or advise to the writer. We reserve the right to reject or not accept a piece of writing for any of our publications. We do not give time scales for publications -as this is often beyond our control working with volunteers, publishing can take days, months or sometimes years.

Pre orders, In accordance with general practice our books will be offered for pre order generally on our website and other web areas. This does not constitute a contract to supply. Sometimes the book does not in the end get published. In which case when a final decision is taken to withdraw the book, then anyone with outstanding orders for that book will receive an automatic refund. Generally we always try our best to publish a book in a timely matter but sometimes force majeure situations occur and the book can be delayed occaisionally for years although this is most unusual. If this occurs and you have purchased a book on a pre order and cannot wait for the full print run, please advise us in writing by email and we will refund the money for the payment of the pre order.

Under no circumstances can threats, harrasment and intimidation be used to force us to publish a book or book chapter at any stage. Should that occur- or such attempts be made then the book will automatically be withdrawn and recreated with that author being removed without notice or refund but copyright will be retained. In such situations any memberships become authomatically annulled from the start of the year in question.

Due to factors beyond our control- for example Brexit, or cost of living crisis or industry consolidation, or integration, we reserve the right to select whatever printer is relevant at the time or available. This will tend to mean that prices can vary wildly for our books, sometimes being possible to create retail books at retail prices and at others only library books at library prices. In which case the prices will be much higher for individual books. Therefore we reserve the right to increase our book prices or decrease our book prices between times and also between websites- as each carries their own set of relevant circumstances.

We cannot guarantee to always offer books on any platform. Currently Amazon is not able to carry our book orders. Please avoid placing orders for our books on Amazon as they cant be fullfilled at the moment. We will alter this here when Amazon service is resumed.

The purchase of a book itself by order or pre order does not guarantee publication of that book or any influence in the books publication, even if the authors are associate or other members of the institute. Membership of any part of the institute does not constitute influence on our publications in anyway nor any rights or obligations to our books publications decisions and rulings of which are entirely separate.

If a book sale cannot eventually be fullfilled then a refund of the order itself -will be given when it is brought to our attention or when our decision not to publish at all is taken. Our books can have an exceptionally long shelf life and therefore this decision can take several years. Some of our books however on the other hand, do not get published or do not achieve a full print run -this can happen for example, if there is no public interest or library interest expressed in orders. All our books get preorder advertising on our websites and on public book platforms for several years if they are in good standing but if after a period there it becomes apparent that is no real interest in that format of the book, in accordance with normal publishing practice we reserve the right not to proceed with a full print run and to withdraw the entire book without notice or to change it or drop some of the chapters or sections in it. . Once that final decision is made not to create a full print run – then any outstanding preorders or orders are refunded automatically. We will then sometimes re create the book under a different isbn and with a completely new set of book chapters or papers. There is then no automatic right of the previous authors to be included or to be involved in the project in anyway. We also always reserve the right to withdraw any chapter before or after publication at any stage without giving any reason

Due to the fast changing nature of the work we do- sometimes due to matters beyond our control a work is no longer relevant and we reserve the right to not publish without giving a reason. We also reserve the right to update our copyright terms and conditions from time to time without giving a reason. The officers decisions are final and reasons will not be given.

We do select from our paid up members in good standing for teams such as our committees, our publications and our United Nations Delegations. From 2025 membership of our delegations will be selected from specific supporter memberships supporting our work in this area.

Membership of The Green Economics Institute International Supporters’ Network does not confer voting rights or trustee status but confers the official status of a ‘Supporter’s Associate Membership’ to the payee for 12 calendar months in which it was paid only subject to the member being in good standing

The Green Economics Institute reserves the right to ask for more details and to interview all applicants and refuse membership if they feel it is unsuitable for you or for us or to refuse to continue a persons membership if they are deemed by the officers to harrass, intimidate, or become abusive to any one of our team members. If anyone tries to bring the Institute into disrepute or we are concerned about the effect of a person’s membership, then membership is terminated and the Chair of Trustees and the Board of The Green Economics Institute’s decision are final in this matter. This also applies to spreading items about the institute, or on the institutes behalf or making claims about the institute without clearing it with the officers.

Each Associate Supporter Member must uphold the Terms and Conditions of Membership of the Institute and not contravene our Bye Laws and Standing Orders as determined by the Institute’s officers for the smooth running of our organisation and will be changed from time to time in accordance with working requirements or are determined by rulings of the officers. Rulings will be made and or kept up to date from time to time by the officers and compliance officers but will not be published. The officers will adjudicate the issues. Their rulings are final.

This Associate Membership does not confer professional endorsement in anyway. Separately Professional qualifications are offered by The Green Economics Institute as a process and all members are  encouraged to apply to start the process but are not confered by these supporters memberships.

All members are required to ensure that they do not bring the Institute into disrepute and also that they do not contract on behalf of the Institute, nor to make claims to enhance their careers about publications, activities or memberships of the institute or any of its activities. Should you wish to receive any kind of official endorsement, you should apply formally and we hold an officers board to determine if this will be possible. It will not be generally given except in rare circumstances when initiated by us for exceptional contributions to our work and aims. Associate Members are also required to keep confidential any information they are given and any contacts they make and to only use them for the purposes and benefit of the Institute and its activities after checking with the officers and receiving permission in writing which will rarely be given.

No one is to use any Professional Business Cards with the Institute’s details on them. The only business cards permitted are those provided and approved by the Legal Representative of the Board of the Institute in the format and company branding approved by the Chair.

Everyone must seek express written permission from the Legal Representative of the Board of the Institute to use their membership of the Institute for professional purposes. An academic committee will determine if this can be offered.

Requests for references will be also assessed by a committee and must be applied for in writing at least one calendar month before they are required. There is no guarantee that these will be forthcoming- and will depend on the assessed generalised risk to the Institute of providing a reference. We do try to help where we can but our committee will decide and their decision is final. We will make a charge for this work and the outcome is not guaranteed.

Regular Associate Supporters Membership Fee: £120.00 per person for the calendar year in which it was paid. It ceases on the 31st December of each calendar year. The payments may be made by installments, please email to apply.

General Terms and Conditions

We look forward very much to welcoming you to The Green Economics Institute’s network. We would like to thank everyone who made this wonderful work possible.

All prospective members must agree to sign a consent form that we hold their data and a confidentiality form that they will protect our data under the new data protection laws (GDPR).

These  memberships are non refundable and non voting and the payment provides for one person per 12 months in the calendar year in which it was paid and for the person to be a member of the International Associate Supporters’ Network of the Green Economics Institute.

In joining GEI or any of its categories of membership, you hereby consent to us holding your data for the purposes of members’ services and information and you agree to us contacting you via email to advise you of events and new initiatives of the GEI from time to time. You undertake to preserve our confidentiality of information and to uphold the statutes and not to bring the institute into disrepute.
