Membership: Ordinary Membership

Membership of The Green Economics Institute Trust’s International Network does not confer voting rights or trustee status but confers the official status of a ‘Supporter’s Associate Membership’ to the payee for the calendar year in which it was paid only. It ceases on the last day of December if the member is in good standing. This membership exists to support the work of the Green Economics Institute and its trust, and to further its work on  social and environmental justice and the creation of Green Economics as an academic discipline and also to stop runaway climate change and prevent poverty and species extinction. The Institute uses science, research and diplomacy to attain its goals.

All prospective members must agree to send in a cv and a covering email and fill in a form after  joining. They must also agree to sign a consent form that we hold their data and a confidentiality that they will protect our data under the new data protection laws.

The new member applicant first pays for the membership on the new www. GEIMembership.org Website and then provides by email to info@geimembership.org  the following document

  • Covering email letter of motivation
  • 3 referees contact details ( who we will be contacting for detailed support of your application)
  • Fills in a membership form
  • These go to our membership applications committee
  • Subject to their agreement, which is final, then the Membership Manager issues the Membership Card and acceptance email letter for the calendar year and guidelines for membership and opportunities and invitations to various membership meetings and inclusion in activities. The membership Manager then telephones the new member to welcome them and to discuss how they can get the best out of their GEI membership and discusses opportunities for realising the new members own aims as well as the requirements of the Institute.

Membership is an award not a right and everyone must apply to become a member. The Green Economics Institute reserves the right to ask for more details and to interview all applicants and refuse membership if they feel it is unsuitable for you or for us. If any tries   to bring the Institute into disrepute or we are concerned about the effect of a person’s membership,  then membership is terminated and the Chair of Trustees decision is final in this matter.

Each Member must uphold the Terms and Conditions of Membership of the Institute in accordance with the Bye Laws and Standing Orders as can be consulted and will be changed from time to time in accordance with working requirements.

This Associate Membership does not confer professional endorsement in anyway. Professional qualifications are offered by The Green Economics Institute as a process and all members are  encouraged to apply to start the process.

All members of The Green Economics Institute and The Green Economics Institute Group are expected to attend the Annual Conference in June (16th,17th 18th 2018) held each year at the University of Oxford.

They may  also be requested to help referee The Institute’s Academic Journal during the year and to participate in supporting the activities of the Institute Group.

All members are required to ensure that they do not bring the Institute into disrepute and also that they do not contract on behalf of the Institute. They are also required to keep confidential any information they are given and any contacts they make and to only use them for the purpose of the Institute and its activities.

No one is to use any Professional Business Cards with the Institute’s details on them. The only business cards permitted are those provided and approved by the Chair of the Trustees in the format and company branding approved by the Chair.

Everyone must seek express written permission from the Chair of the Trustees to use their membership of the Institute for professional purposes.

Membership Fee: £65.00 pp per calendar year

 

Professional Membership

This level of membership, which is pitched at Masters Post Graduate Level  is only available on deliberation of our academic committee. Members have used it to for example as evidence in support of a new professorial position or professional promotion, or to endorse their research or other activities or academic writing.

We normally ask you to send in supporting documents, to fill  in our forms and to provide appropriate references and other material and certificates to support your application.

This level of membership can be obtained via our Unique Examination Qualifications which are held twice a year- once in June during the academic conference week at Oxford University and also once in November in the UK.

The new member applicant first pays for the membership on the new www. GEIMembership.org Website and then provides by email to info@geimembership.org  the following documents:

  • 3 referees contact details ( who we will be contacting for detailed support of your application)
  • Fills in a membership form
  • Plans to prepare for our Green Economist Examinations
  • These go to our membership applications committee
  • Discussions take place after the awards committee recommends admission or an admission pathway.
  • Examinations take place.
  • Results are conveyed
  • Subject to their agreement, which is final, then the Membership Manager issues the Membership Card and acceptance email letter for the calendar year and guidelines for membership and opportunities and invitations to various membership meetings and inclusion in activities. The membership Manager then telephones the new member to welcome them and to discuss how they can get the best out of their GEI membership and discusses opportunities for realising the new members own aims as well as the requirements of the Institute.

Membership is an award not a right and everyone must apply to become a member. The Green Economics Institute reserves the right to ask for more details and to interview all applicants and refuse membership if they feel it is unsuitable for you or for us. If any tries   to bring the Institute into disrepute or we are concerned about the effect of a person’s membership,  then membership is terminated and the Chair of Trustees decision is final in this matter.

Membership Fee: £100.00 pp per calendar year

 

GEI Green Economist Graduate Membership

This level of membership, which is pitched at Masters Post Graduate Level  is only available on deliberation of our academic committee and the successful passing of our examinations which are held twice a year, once during the Oxford University Conference and once in November. Full membership must be taken out before taking the examination. An application form will be sent to candidates and the process discussed with them. All candidates do a mock examination before hand to ensure that no one is allowed to take the exam unless we are certain we can help you to achieve the required standard. However all papers are marked and verified and cross checked  by our external academic committee composed of several economics professors and equivalent and other experts  and their decision is final.

Members have used it to for example as evidence in support of a new professorial position or professional promotion, or to endorse their research or other activities or academic writing.

We normally ask you to send in supporting documents, to fill  in our forms and to provide appropriate references and other material and certificates to support your application.

Members remain ordinary Network members unless and until they are awarded the Graduate Membership Status after success in the GEI examinations.

Graduate Membership Application Fee: £250  to register to take the examination in addition to the membership fee of £65.00 both to be paid at the time of application.

 

International Expert Membership

This level of membership is  pitched at Practitioner and Academic Post Graduate attainment and also depends on succeeding in our Institute examinations held twice a year at the GEI. It is also only available on deliberation of our academic committee. Members have used it to for example as evidence in support of a new professorial position or professional promotion, or to endorse their research or other activities or academic writing. Commonly this might be a level used by Post Graduate Organic Farmers involved in an aspect of implementing the Green Economy. Or it might be for academics with for example 2 PHDs in economics and another field.  Please ask if it might be possible to apply for this level.

Green Policy Maker Expert Membership

This level of membership is  pitched at Practitioner and Academic Post Graduate attainment and also depends on succeeding in our Institute examinations held twice a year at the GEI. It is also only available on deliberation of our academic committee. Members have used it to for example as evidence in support of a new professorial position or professional promotion, or to endorse their research or other activities or academic writing. Commonly this might be a level used by Post Graduate level campaigners involved in an aspect of implementing the Green Economy. Or it might be for academics with for example  masters or PhDs in environmental science or another field.  Please ask if it might be possible to apply for this level.

Economics Policy Maker Expert Membership

This level of membership is  pitched at Practitioner and Academic Post Graduate attainment and also depends on succeeding in our Institute examinations held twice a year at the GEI. It is also only available on deliberation of our academic committee. Members have used it to for example as evidence in support of a new professorial position or professional promotion, or to endorse their research or other activities or academic writing.

Commonly this might be a level used by Post Graduate level campaigners involved in an aspect of implementing Reform of Economics or writing expert books on economics or advising governments or international institutions. Or it might be for academics with for example  Masters or PhDs  levels in economics or another field.  Please ask if it might be possible to apply for this level.

Under 23’s Membership

This level of membership is  pitched at young  people who share our aims of implementing social and environmental justice and practicing science, diplomacy and research for the benefit of reforming of economics and stopping runaway climate change. This is implemented via the Green Economics Institute Trust to educate the public in this respect.

To enter at this level young people must send a covering email and cv and an email letter of motivation and their contact details saying how their membership will enhance the institute. It is also only available as an award of our academic committee.

The new member applicant first pays for the membership on the new www. GEIMembership.org Website and then provides by email to info@geimembership.org  the following documents:

  • Fills in a membership form

Student Membership

This level of membership is  pitched at students  who share our aims of implementing social and environmental justice and practicing science, diplomacy and research for the benefit of reforming of economics, creating the New Academic Discipline of Green Economics and stopping runaway climate change. This is implemented via the Green Economics Institute Trust which  exists to educate the public in this respect. It is pitched at undergraduate level. It is available during a students undergraduate career. After which time they must move to another level of membership.

To enter at this level students must send a covering email and cv and an email letter of motivation and their contact details, saying how their membership will enhance the institute. This level is also only available as an award of our academic committee whose decision is final.

Expert International Membership

To join our Network at the Green Economics Institute from 2018 applicants are required to send in 2 referees contacts for references, your CV and a covering letter of motivation. On receipt of your application we will send you a PayPal invoice which must be paid in full before your application can be processed.  Our membership team, will then process your application on receipt of your payment and if you are successful, they will ask you  to sign our formal documents and declarations of membership and then you will receive your membership card and can join in member’s events.

Green Economics Institute’s  Delegations to The United Nations Climate COP  Conference

We offer two opportunities in 2018 to apply to register to  join our  United Nations Delegations.

First you need to pay for your membership at the level you require. At the same time registration for either the COP April/May Delegation for the GEI’s COP 24 Katowice Poland, Delegation December 2018. Registration for each one is £150 per person.

General Terms and Conditions

These  memberships are non refundable and the payment provides for one person per calendar year to be a member of the relevant category of the Professional International Network of the Green Economics Institute Trust.

We look forward very much to welcoming you to The Green Economics Institute Trust network for 2018 which greatly expanded in 2017 after a really successful year. We would like to thank everyone who made this wonderful work possible.

In joining GEI or any of its categories of membership, you hereby consent to us holding your data for the purposes of members’ services and information and you agree to us contacting you via email to advise you of events and new initiatives of the GEi from time to time. You undertake to preserve our confidentiality of information and to uphold the statutes and not to bring the institute into disrepute.
